Increasing dissidence may deflate BJP's Mission 44+ | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 2: With increasing dissidence in the Party, BJP's Mission 44+ is likely to get deflated as people in various constituencies will prefer to vote for candidates than the party. The Party is facing dissidence in Kathua, Bani, Udhampur, Rajouri and Reasi assembly segments where its leaders and some former MLAs are in the fray as independent candidates. Besides in Basholi the Party MLA has joined the Congress in protest against the denial of mandate to him while in Ramban the dissident leader joined another political party to seek its mandate and contest the elections. This has posed a grave challenge before the BJP's Mission 44+ and people openly question the Party's decision in selection of candidates. There are even allegations that BJP State leadership has misled the Party High Command in this regard as some prospective candidates were denied and weak candidates were given preference to them. According to sources the dissidence in various constituencies can prove costly for BJP and its candidates and division of vote can benefit the third group in these constituencies. Sources said some senior BJP leaders are also worried over it and they have conveyed the Party High Command to rope in the dissents in Bani, Kathua, Rajouri and other constituencies where elections are yet to be held otherwise Party can face an awkward position at hustings. Some senior leaders from Delhi are likely to visit State within days to pursue these dissidents to withdraw from poll fray and support official candidates of Party so that BJP can at least get some respectable seats in the Assembly elections for its face saving. Sources said putting up such star campaigners for campaigning in the State including Prime Minister Narendera Modi, Home Minster Raj Nath Singh, Party spokesperson Shahnavaz Hussian, Surface Transport Minister, Nitin Gadkari, Human Resource Development Minister, Smriti Irani the BJP leadership can't afford any setback in J&K poll. So its senior leadership form Delhi will prevail upon the dissidents to withdraw from poll fray. With PDP emerging as formidable force in Kashmir and Party likely to win about 35 seats in Valley, BJP can't afford to lose the seats due to growing dissidence in the Party, sources said. Sources said keeping this in view Party senior leadership has decided to pursue the dissents in all those constituencies which are going to polls in third and fourth phase. |
