Jamaat bastions react differently during ongoing polls | 'After massive polling in Ganderbal, Kulgam turns violent ' | | Javaid Naikoo
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 2: Contrary to probability, Jamaat-i-islami bastions are reacting differently during ongoing polls in Kashmir. After brisk voting in Ganderbal, Jamaat bastions of Kulgam today reacted violently to boycott polls. After brisk polling was recorded in central Kashmir's Ganderbal District in areas considered as Jamaat-i-islami bastions like Saloora and Barsoo in first phase of polling few days back where Jamaat followers said that they voted for change and against Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) mission 44+ which needs seats from Kashmir valley as well for BJP leadership, noted Jamaat bastions of Kulgam, Redwani, Kujar, Frisal, Hawoora, Rampora, Qaimoh of Homeshalibugh constituency and Khudwani main of Devsar constituency today reacted violently and boycotted polls once again with varied reasons for boycott. "Nobody including Jamaat Islami Chief can use us for his wishes, Jamaat followers of other areas may have voted against BJP or any other party but we have our own canons to follow and we know why we boycott polls, I dont think BJP is different than any regional political party, all are same, so why should anybody use us," said one masked Jamaat Islami follower of Redwani village of Kulgam. Pertinently Jamaat chief, Mohammad Abdullah Wani recently made a controversial statement on Jamaat's take on elections in Kashmir, followed by soft stand on ongoing polls by united Jihad Council (UJC) Chairmain Syed Salah-ud-din in which Wani asked Jammaat to boycott polls while as Salah-ud-din asked Separatists to decide whether to boycott or not. Clashes broke out in Rampora, Qaimoh, Bugam,Khudwani and Redwani areas of Kulgam represented by opposition Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) candidate Abdul Gaffar Sofi, while as in Homeshalibugh constituency slow polling was going on throughout the day with around 2 percent of polling till last reports were received from the area. Clashes also broke out in the adjoining Qaimoh village, another Jamaat hub, where according to reports dozens of security personnel were injured in stone pelting clashes with youth and protests also erupted in Bugam village soon after polling process was started earlier this morning which hampered polling till 1 pm in Bugam village at four polling stations. Keeping in view soft stand of separatist on ongoing polling process in Kashmir and activities of BJP to fetch some seats from Kashmir to enter in next government of Jammu and Kashmir, analysts believe that poll percentage of Jamaat followers is likely to play a deciding part in ongoing polls and such a huge poll percentage is the only yet successful way out to restrict BJP activism to Jammu division only. Pertinently Kulgam District was one of the 18 constituencies where polling held in second phase of state assembly elections today and like Ganderbal it was expected that Jamaat followers may vote in large numbers like their colleagues did in Ganderbal District. |
