| PDP alleges booth capturing by NC at Mendhar, protests | | | MENDHAR, Dec 2 : Alleging booth capturing by NC at three places in Mendhar assembly constituency, PDP workers this evening held a massive protest in the town here, demanding a repoll at these stations.They said even after polling came to an end in Poonch district at 4 pm, it continued at Shungan B polling station No 34, Shungan C polling station No 35 and Topa polling station No 29 allegedly at the instance of NC candidate from Mendhar, Javed Rana.
PDP leader and ex-MLC M R Qureshi said he had spoken to Poonch district election officer (DEO) M H Malik in this regard and brought the matter to his notice."The DEO has assured me that there will either be a repoll at the three polling booths or the votes cast there will not be counted. He also said that Election Commission will take a final decision in this regard," the PDP leader claimed.The protest continued from 6 pm to 7.20 pm. During this time, traffic remained disrupted on the Mendhar-Jammu road.
Returning Officer, Mendhar, Romesh Kumar said voting at the three polling stations was closed at 4 pm. "Since there were people still standing in the queues, I brought the matter to the notice of DEO and Election Commissioner. On their direction, new EVMs were put at the three places to enable the people, who were in the queues, to cast their votes," he added. |
