HC grants last opportunity to state to file compliance in PIL against cow slaughtering | | | Jammu, Dec 2 : In a PIL filed by an advocate as regards the slaughtering of cows, a high court division bench of chief justice M M Kumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan today granted last opportunity to the state to file the compliance report. In the PIL filed by him, advocate Parimoksh Seth has submitted that inspite of the penal provisions of RPC make slaughtering or killing of bovine animals an offence punishable under section 298-A of RPC and possession of such slaughtered animal an act punishable under section 298-B of RPC, the slaughtering and sale of such slaughtered animals is rampant in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir and it is also stated that this goes on with the active connivance of the authorties who are otherwise supposed to check this practice, which has severely affected the religious sentiments of a section of the society. The bench had earlier directed Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir to file a report as to the steps that have been taken with a view to prevent either slaughtering or sale of such slaughtered animals in various areas falling under their jurisdictions. They were also directed to obtain inputs from IGPs of Jammu and Kashmir ranges to find out as to whether the activities of slaughtering of bovine animals and their sale is being undertaken on commercial level on regular basis and if so, what steps have been taken by them with a view to brining the guilty to book. Today, when this PIL was taken up for hearing, the bench, after hearing both the sides took serious note for not filing the compliance report and granted last opportunity to the state to file compliance report of the order.
