As Omar dreams of winning from Beerwah, Nazir Khan emerges as dark horse | | | Shakeel A Khan BUDGAM, Dec 2: The decision of National Conference working President and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to contest the assembly elections from Beerwah constituency of this central Kashmir district might prove the biggest mistake of his political career. Omar might have to bite the dust on the counting day because people of the constituency seem to have made up their mind to elect a local leader thinking that he has got the better knowledge about problems confronting to the areas of the constituency. Political pundits believe that it will not be a cake walk for the National Conference as the area is set to witness a neck to neck direct contest between Omar Abdullah and Nazir Ahmad Khan of Congress."We take it as our duty to ensure the victory of the candidate who is from within the constituency because he is always there and a better choice as compared to the outsiders. It is our moral responsibility to favour our neighbour not the stranger," said Bilal Ahmad from Kawoosa. Bilal said that Beerwah residents cannot rely on the man who has come from other district to contest the elections from Beerwah. He said that Omar distanced himself from the people who devoted whole of their lives for the party cause and same can happen to the people of the Beerwah constituency. "In Beerwah constituency, NC is relying heavily on the votes from a particular community which may not be a reality after all. We want to make sure that there is not a serious division in the rest of the voters and we are working hard at it. The people will have to blame themselves if the outsider wins from here," said some supporters of Nazir Ahmad Khan, congress candidate from the constituency. These supporters of the Congress candidate went on saying that assembly election which is in progress, will be historical because the people are voting for the change and the people from the Beerwah constituency would like to lead from the front. |
