4 Homshalibugh villages record 'lowest' turnout | | | Saahil Suhail
Kulgam, Dec 2: Not a single vote was cast at 4 polling stations in Homshalibugh constituency of the district till 3 pm while as only few voters turned to exercise their franchise in Bugam village of Kulgam assembly segment. The four villages-Chanpora Chninigam, Nowpora and Kharpora in Homshalibugh constituency along with areas of Redwani, Khudwani and Kiomoh have always been a hub of the militants, and the bastion of separatist ideology. In Chanpora-Chninigam no signle voter out of 733 registered voters turned to vote, an official confirmed. He said that in Nowpora and Kharpora villages no vote out of 980 votes was cast till 3 pm. "Two polling booths are in government middle School, Chinigam and two at Karpora-Novpora all of them recorded zero percentage voting," an official said. Farooq Ahmad Dar of Chinigam Village says, '' How can we forget the very recent encounter and participate in the election process.''Violent clashes which broke out between the security forces and youth since morning marked the poll day in Bugam village of Kulgam district. Very few voters turned to cast vote, official told Early Times. Clashes since yesterday evening also took place in khudwani, kiomoh, and redwani areas of Homshalibugh constituency. Police used teargas shells to disperse the protesters during which several including CRPF troopers' sustained injuries. However, majority of all the four constituencies-Kulgam, Devsar, Noorabad and Homshalibugh witnessed brisk polling since from 8:00am. According to figures released by Election Commission, a 71 per cent voter turnout was registered in the second phase of election in 18 assembly segments in Jammu and Kashmir. Four assembly segments of Kulgam district recorded overall 60% of polling. |
