Army foils infiltration bid by killing 3 militants in border district of Kupwara

SRINAGAR, Dec 2: Army foiled an infiltration bid by killing three militants near Line of Control in the frontier district of Kupwara. Arms and ammunition including rifles were recovered from the possession of the slain militants. Reports reaching here said that army noticed the movement of militants in the Tutmar Gali sector of Kupwara district near the Line of Control during the night of December 1 (Monday). The militants were asked to surrender by the army personnel but the militants fired on the army personnel. Following this an encounter started in which three militants were killed.Reports said that the encounter was going when last reports came in and it is apprehended that some more militants are hiding there.A defence spokesman said that the action against the militants was possible due to the robust counter infiltration grid put in by the army. The spokesman said that success was achieved when infiltrating militants in the Tutmar Gali Sector were detected by the alert troops, leading to launch of an operation and elimination of three heavily armed militants. "The effectiveness and robustness of the counter infiltration grid established by the Army all along the Line of Control was proven once again today with the elimination of three heavily armed militants, well equipped to infiltrate even through areas of heavy snow," said the defence spokesman. Giving details about the encounter the defence spokesman said that on the night of 01/02 December, the infiltration bid in the Tut Mari Gali Sector was detected and eliminated along the line of control near the Shamshabari Ridge. He said immediately on detecting the infiltrating militant group, the local unit established contact with the group during the night leading to a fierce firefight."The Army immediately surrounded the group cutting off their routes of escape and in the ensuing firefight eliminated three militants. Three rifles and a huge quantity of warlike stores were recovered from the terrorists. The operation was continuing till last reports came in," said the defence spokesman. Meanwhile, Jammu & Kashmir Police arrested a man along with a grenade in the South Kashmir's Kulgam district.A police spokesman said that Kulgam Police along with Army and CRPF arrested a person with a grenade in Kulgam last evening. The spokesman said that in a joint operation, Kulgam police along with 9-RR and 18Bn CRPF apprehended one person Bilal Ahmad Sheikh son of Ghulam Mohammad resident Rampora Qoimoh. Upon his search one hand grenade was recovered from him. A case FIR No. 75/2014 under section 7/25 Arms Act has been registered and investigations have been taken up.
