NC checkmate trap fails to catch PDP To respect mandate of Jammu people | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 16: In the ongoing game of nerves over government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, PDP has countered the checkmate move of National Conference. NC Working president, Omar Abdullah tried to corner PDP by moving the Rajbhavan. In an official communiqué to the governor, he offered support of his 15 MLAs to PDP to keep away right wing BJP from the power in the state. However, PDP has stood its ground that the overwhelming mandate of Jammu in the favour of BJP cannot be brushed aside by any wise leadership of the state. " Our talks with BJP are still open because Jammu is an integral part of the state, and its mandate must be respected. Our endeavour is to actually connect with the people of Jammu by opening a channel of communication with BJP," said Zafar Iqbal Manhas, a senior PDP leader. NC leaders admit that the party's move was aimed at discrediting PDP in the valley in the eventuality of its joining hands with BJP. NC leaders all along have been alleging that PDP was the creation of BJP and that the party was the brainchild of the Indian intelligence agencies. The unique but challenging fractured mandate has given NC a golden opportunity to prove its point. " We have lost the mandate but the results have also placed us in a position where we can make long term gain against our arch rival PDP" said a former NC minister. Meanwhile, there is increasing feeling in the state that government formation must be expedited in the larger interest of the people. The electorate is feeling a sense of helplessness. Without a democratic setup in place there is no accessibility to elected representatives who can effectively resolve their day problems. |
