After being rejected by masses, NC trying level best to be part of next state Govt | PDP gives little importance to NC's offer BJP also keeps them away | |
Jehangir Rashid ET Report Srinagar, Jan 16: Ever since the declaration of results of the 2014 assembly elections leadership of National Conference has been trying its best to somehow be a part of the next government in the state. However, they have failed so far given the cold shoulder attitude of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP). While PDP emerged the single largest party with 28 seats, BJP emerged second on the list with 25 seats. National Conference got 15 seats while as Congress got 12 seats. On the day of counting of votes NC working President and former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah tried his best to create ripples among PDP by saying that he is ready to support them for forming the next government in Jammu & Kashmir. However, he was quick to add that for this purpose PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has to make the initial move. On his part, Mufti never made the initial move and gave no importance to the offer of Omar. Following this the NC working President said that in order to keep the BJP away from power they are ready to join hands with PDP. However, this too unmoved the PDP leadership and they did not respond to Omar's offer. The only statement made by any PDP legislator or leader in this regard was by MLA Amira Kadal, Syed Altaf Bukhari who said that the offer should be given in black and white. Immediately after the return of Omar from London the NC sent a letter to Governor Narendra Vohra offering their support to the PDP government in the state. Responding to the latest offer the PDP through its spokesman Nayeem Akhtar said that NC wants to be a part of the new government through backdoor. Akhtar said that NC has been reduced to margins and it has got no position whatsoever to give suggestions on the formation of next government in state. He said that Governor rule is better than forming a government with NC. Although the NC leaders have been saying that they are in no mood to form the government with BJP, truth of the matter is that BJP leadership is giving little importance to NC in this regard. The BJP leaders it seems opine that it would be better to form government with PDP that has emerged as leading party from Kashmir rather than NC. NC has also faced embarrassment in other form and that is that their offers or suggestions are being replied not by PDP's President, but by the party spokesman. While Omar and NC's General Secretary, Ali Mohammad Sagar are issuing statements day in and day out, none of PDP leaders are responding to the same. In fact, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti issued a statement weeks back that only party spokesman is authorized to talk and no other leader can say anything over the government formation. Since then only Akhtar has been issuing statements with regard to the party position on government formation and the other leaders have been keeping mum. |
