Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 4: Attribute it to the insensitivity and apathetic attitude of the transport department, the victims of road accidents in Akhnoor tehsil are awaiting compensation that was awarded in their favour by the Motor Vehicles Department for over 3 years. Reliable sources told Early Times that the accident victims of many cases are still awaiting the compensation to be given by the transport department even after more than three years. ET learnt that commendation awarded to accident victims from 67th to 109th meeting of the transport department to finalize such compensations has not been delivered and the victims are suffering more pain in trauma and harassment in long wait then they suffered during accidents. Sources said that the indifference of Transport Department can be gauged from the fact that many a families effected by such accidents are still searching for the compensation award committee constituted under Govt. order no 39- TR of 2008 dated 28-05-2008 and Transport Commissioner's order No. 220-MVD of 2010 dated 30-03-2010 for considering payment of ex-gratia relief to the victims of such accidents. Manohar lal Raina, Deputy Transport Commissioner when contacted by Early Times said that the Transport department had fixed an amount of Rs. 25000 for the deceased and Rs. 10000 for the grievously injured after a meeting in 2010. He again said that every year, the Transport office withdrew some amount from the revenue department to pay compensation. "We have already given some amount to the all the district authorities and the RTOs as well as ARTOs of concerned district and they are answerable for the delay" he added.
