Worries ahead for BJP as JPUF takes up pro-Jammu agenda | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 4: Newly formed Jammu Pradesh United Front (JPUF) has given sleepless nights to the power hungry leadership of BJP, which is desperate to become part of the government at any cost. JPUF has started exploiting the pro-Jammu issues which BJP earlier used to highlight to exploit sentiments of the people of Jammu region since decades. While as BJP leadership has maintained a criminal silence on the issue of chief minister of Jammu and granting citizenship rights to the poor refugees from West Pakistan, JPUF has started strongly taking up these issues to corner the party which has won 25 seats from Jammu region by exploiting these issues. Desperate to form government, BJP leadership has almost decided to abandoned core issues like discrimination with Jammu region, chief minister from Jammu region, political empowerment of Jammu region and citizenship rights to refugees from West Pakistan. JPUF leadership is thinking that it is the proper time to take on BJP on these issues because the latter would not take stand on these issues due to its eye on power. In its first protest demonstration, JPUF made its agenda very clear by targeting BJP for not strongly highlighting issue related to Jammu province. JPUF has demanded that BJP should work to incorporate issues like citizenship rights to refugees from West Pakistan in the Common Minimum Programme. "Amid the prevailing impasse over the Government formation in the state of Jammu & Kashmir and the conspicuous compromise by the BJP to incorporate all its promises and assurances in the CMP on which it has sought a mandate by the people of Jammu Pradesh in the recent Assembly elections for the sake of forging a ruling alliance with the PDP , JPUF held a mammoth peaceful protest march led by Balwant Singh Mankotia, Ex-MLA", the Front stated in its handout issued after today's protest. We respect and uphold the most coveted people's aspiration of Chief Minister from Jammu region. It is a life time chance for the BJP with 25 MLA's to form the government headed by the CM from Jammu region and if it could not happen then the people of Jammu would feel hoodwinked, cheated and humiliated", he asserted. Clearing its agenda for the days to come, JPUF leader Balwant Singh Mankotia reminded that during Parliament and Assembly elections, BJP had promised to grant citizenship rights to refugees from West Pak now the party has maintained a silence on this core issue. |
