GMC doctors go on strike to protest assault on PG doctor | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 4: All Resident Doctors (Registrars and Post Graduate Resident Doctors) in Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu and associated hospitals today went on total strike after a female postgraduate resident doctor was manhandled, by attendants of a patient in GMC emergency. Doctors on duty had given in writing to the casualty medical officer to lodge a FIR against the attendants. Keeping in view due to sufferings being faced by the patients it was by all senior residents (Registrars) and junior residents (post graduates) decided to give adequate time to register FIR against the attendants. Despite clear orders from the principal GMC Jammu the FIR was lodged only after the resident doctors went on to strike paralyzing the emergency services. Meanwhile an emergency meeting of the resident doctors from the Department of Medicine was convened in which all members unanimously vowed to continue the strike till the demands of met with. Giving details Dr Neeraj Sharma Registrar Medicine said the burning demands to be met in letter and spirt by the hospital administration before the strike is called off included restriction of two attendants with one patient in emergency, reasonable representation to the concerned higher ups by the principal for making assault on hospital staff or damage to hospital property a non-bailable offence and swift action for lodging FIR ( within 1 hour) if any such untoward incident occurred in future. |
