Jammu, Feb 10 : National Panthers Student Union (NPSU) today held a protest demonstration against the failure of authorities to revise the passengers fare on Tuesday. The students led by Thakur Virender Singh raised slogans against the Chief Secretary and the Transport Commissioner and sought immediate reduction transport charges and passenger fares. Addressing the gathering, Thakur Virender said that despite decline in the global prices of petrol and diesel, the state government had failed to reduce the passenger fares and to fix them in conformity with the reduced oil prices. He said that not only the common man but also the students were the worst sufferers of the government's apathy. He also flayed the transporters for denying student concession to the students travelling as per prescribed standard procedures. The agitating students were late called by the Transport Commissioner Dilshad who held a half an hour meeting with them and assumed than of immediate action for reduction transport charges and passenger fares. She also looks the memorandum given by NPSU for reduction of fares. She said that the meeting with transport union would be immediately convened and assumed of early action in the matter. Among others who were present on the occasion included Kailash Monah, Rishi Badyal, Amit Charak, Chandan Kumar, Sahil, Shubam Singh, Shubam Kumar, Lovely, Bhopinder, Khuram, Deepak, Devinder, Ghar Singh, Ajay Singh and others. |
