AAP tsunami uproots Congress, BJP in Delhi | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 10: It was no less than the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Tsunami that uprotted the BJP and the Congress in the Assembly poll results in Delhi.Imagine in the May Lok Sabha poll the BJP had won all the seven seats and had been in the lead in 60 of the 70 Assembly constituencies. And the same BJP was swept out of reckoning within just eight months. The opinion and the exit polls had predicted victory for the AAP and both the Congress and the BJP had voiced criticism over the exit poll results.Surprisingly, the opinion poll and the exit poll results had come accurate during the Lok Sabha election and in the Assembly election in Maharashtra,Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. So was the case with the Assembly election in Delhi but with a differ ence.Even the opinion and exit poll results were short of the actual poll results. And the BJP was so confident about its success that its leaders had made preparations,a day ahead of the poll results, for distributing sweets among people and party workers on Tuesday. But the BJP,which had nurse hopes of forming the Government, had failed to even to assume the shape and size of an effective opposition. If in 2013 Assembly election in Delhi the Congress had managed to win only eight seats this time the Congress drew a blank. In 2013 it was said that Congress defeat was the out of antiincumbency factor and that factor had surfaced after about 15 years' of Congress rule. And by the same analogy one can say that defeat of the BJP in Delhi is the outcome of antiincumbency factor on the part of the BJP led NDA Government in the centre. In f act the BJP had banked on the charisma of Prime Minister,Narendra Modi.It was,in fact, the Modi wave that had helped the BJP to win seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi in May.Hence the crushing defeat of the BJP in Delhi Assembly poll is the outcome of Modi wave having lost its verve and vigour.Reason being Modi led Government's failure in fulfilling its promises made to the people during the Lok Sabha electioneering. It had promised to bring down prices but except for petrol and diesel all other items had witnessed inflation. Its promise to unearth black money within 100 days had not been fulfilled though the exercise on the front has been going on. It has promised to improve law and order in Delhi with main provision of ensuring women safety. The BJP led NDA Government has failed because of increase in cases of rapes, kidnapping, murders and robberies, including major cases of thefts. Apart from internal dissensions in the BJP over the induction of Kiran Bedi as the party's main face in the elections peoples' anger against Modi for having remained a passive spectator of those of his colleagues who were trying to trigger one conflict or the other by issuing controversial statements. People this time wanted a change,a change from the tried Congress and the BJP.People wanted to give yet another chance to Arvind Kejriwal who,as Chief Minister of Delhi, had resigned after remaining in the office for 49 days. It is time Modi sets his house in order.Let him set the BJP house in order as the BJP is to face yet another litmus test in Bihar and West Bengal where Assembly elections are round the corner. West Bengal Chief Minister,Mamta Banerjee, and Bihar Chief Minister,Nitish Kumar, who are at loggerheads with Modi, have sent their greetings to Kejriwal and no wonder the AAP may lend its support to Mamata and Nitsh in the upcoming election.Kejriwal could be part of the proposed third front. From 49 days wonder people wanted to make Kejriwal to have a full five term for fulfilling series of promises he had dished out to people. Will he be able to fulfill his commitments or leave the field without scoring a century ? Future events will determine. |
