Early Times Report
ANANTNAG, Feb 10: Chief Executive officer Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) and two other employees on Tuesday sustained injuries after locals of Pahalgam resorted to violence during a demolition drive. Officials at PDA informed Early Times that CEO Mohammad YousfBhat was attacked and injured by the mob near Maharaja Hotel in Pahalgam when he was returning from Athnarein area where he demolished a few structures raised illegally. Injured CEO and two other employees were immediately shifted to Anantnag district Hospital, they said. Condition of the injured is stable, hospital sources confirmed to Early Times. However, in the attack, the vehicle of the officer was damaged. An official told Early Times that the employees caught hold of a stone thrower who later was handed over to police. They said that Pahalgam police took cognizance of the incident and have started up the investigation. "We have registered case and started the investigation," a senior police official confirmed. However, the locals denying to have attacked the employee blamed Pahalgam Development Authority for carrying out selective demolition drive. "If they have courage then they must touch the structures of influential and rich violators," a local whishing not to be named said. He said that PDA was demolishing residential houses and was not allowing them to repair their houses but was allowing influential people to construct hotels in lush green zones. Locals told Early Times that PDA has failed to demolish the structures raised by Son-in-Laws of former Health Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din and former rural development Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar and have failed to register FIR against them. "They come and bulldoze the residential houses of poor but what about the influential," locals said, adding PDA has so far several times served demolition notices on the rich and influential but never dared to touch their illegally constructed huts and hotels. Pertinently Pahalgam Development Authority has served demolition notice over dozen influential hotels constructed illegally in Movera area of Phalgam but ironically have spared the relatives of TajMohi-u-din and Ali Mohammad Sagar. |
