Court awards life-imprisonment in first wife murder case

JAMMU, Feb 24: Principal Sessions Judge Rajouri, Shahzad Azeem today awarded life-imprisonment to Zahroon Kouser who murdered his husband's first wife (sautan).
According to the police during the investigation it was found that Zamurd Begum was married to Abdul Majid, 27/28 years before and had three daughters. In order to fulfill the urge for male baby, PW-2 Abdul Majid with the consent of deceased, solemnized second marriage with accused 4/5 years before, however, till two months after marriage the relations between the deceased and accused remained cordial, thereafter, altercation picked up.
Abdul Majid got accused checked up from the doctor, who opined that she cannot become mother, however, meanwhile, deceased was found pregnant for 2 ½ months, which enraged the accused. PW2- Abdul Majid on, 10.07.2011, left for Srinagar, Baltal for labour and said to have requested parents of the deceased to stay at home, so as to take care of her.
The parents of deceased, PW4- Ghulam Qadir and PW5- Sunder Bi, accordingly, stayed at the house of PW-2, but because of ill health of PW5- Sunder Bi, both returned back home on, 13.07.2011, at 5 p.m. Thereupon, in the intervening night of 13th /14th of July 2011, while deceased and accused were alone at home, accused firstly ensured that deceased completely fell asleep, then picked up axe and thrice struck in the neck of deceased, who alleged to have died on the spot.
Accused thereafter changed her blood stained clothes and dumped her clothes and other old and torn clothes on the dead body. Thereafter accused poured kerosene oil over the dead body, other articles lying therein and set it ablaze to disappear the evidence of offence. Resultantly, the dead body and house burnt to ashes. In this way investigating officer concluded commission of offence U/Ss, 302/436/201, RPC, against the accused.
Principal Sessions Judge Rajouri after hearing Public Prosecutor for the state whereas Advocate Inderjeet Sharma for the accused observed that convict was sent up for trial in the year 2011 and continuously for last seven years convict has been facing the trial. During all these seven years, nothing adverse is reported by the Jail authorities or escorting party which casts doubt upon her chances of rehabilitation or reformation.
