Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 24: Apart from allegations of nepotism, the University of Jammu has faced several major setbacks during the tenure of the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Prof R D Sharma, who will retire form Service in March.
Sharma's tenure is all set to end on March 12, but during his tenure 'deadwood' was placed at worthy posts, and at the same time some courses and Centres were closed leaving the stakeholders on the mercy of God.
"His tenure as VC begun with closure of two PG Courses in Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) and both courses contributed huge in case of revenue", sources said. They said that the PG course, Political Science at DDE begun for session 2014-15 begun July 28, 2014 and closed in the same session, on April 13, 2015, but the University could not re-start the Course, similarly, another PG course i.e. Economic went missing from the prospectus of the DDE.
Unfortunately, after lapse of around three years both courses, could not restart. "The responsible for this developments, awarded by the administration for the failure", said a senior professor. They further said that Human Genetic Research cum Counselling Centre (HGRCC) established by Prof Amitabh Matoo, as Vice Chancellor, University also went missing from University during the Tenure of Prof R D Sharma. "University of Jammu winded-up the HGRCC on the pretext University has shortage of funds to run the centre", sources said and added that at time of closure of Centre, 1.5 crore rupees were still lying un-spent with Department of Science and Technology J&K.
They said that recent most the State Government not only snatched a UIET from University but also penetrated in its autonomy by owning a college being established within the campus of Kathua campus. "Several senior Professors, who felt ashamed over administration's silence over UIET issue, have protested on their own during a recently held meeting", they said and added that it was also a failure on the part of the incumbent VC.
