Jammu, Feb 24: In another shocking incident of insult to national anthem after Baba Ghulam Shah Badsha University, a senior officer at Academy of Art, Culture and Languages preferred to sit in presence of the Governor N N Vohra and Minister for Culture Priya Sethi during an official function at Abhinav Theater in Jammu.
As per the details available with Early Times, the gazetted officer of Academy of Art, Culture and Languages chose not to stand up while national anthem was played during the function.
The incident was caught on camera.
The incident took place during the inaugural ceremony of literary festival organised at Abhinav theatre Jammu. Iftikhar Ahmad, who works as Assistant Editor in Kashmiri language remained seated while national anthem was played to mark the beginning of the festival.
As soon as the video surfaced in public domain, the nationalist people demanded action against the erring officer. "The incident happened in presence of Governor N N Vohra and MoS Art and Culture Priya Sethi and senior officials. It's unacceptable," they said.
"He takes salary in Indian currency and has no respect for the national anthem. He should be punished, " said one of the agitated employees.
Meanwhile, following public outcry, the Government said that it has constituted three member committee to look into the matter following which action will be initiated against the guilty officer.
Secretary Cultural Academy Dr Aziz Hajni while talking to media persons assured that guilty will not be spared. "No one is above the law. Guilty whosoever he is will not be spared" said Hajni.
After being cornered from all sides the erring employee said that as per Supreme Court order it is not mandatory to stand up during national anthem . "I was not also feeling well that's why I couldn't stand up," he said.
Chairman of Panthers Party Harsh Dev Singh demanded immediate registration of FIR against Iftikhar Ahmed and also called for his arrest beside pressing sedition charges against the accused for hurting the sentiments of people of India. He said that such things will not be allowed to happen.
