| Five USG Centers sealed in Kupwara | | | Mohammad Sarfaraz

KUPWARA, Feb 27: The district administration Kupwara has launched a special drive against the USG centers violating the provisions of the PC & PNDT Act.
A top district official said that in order to curb the menace of illegal sex determination and other unethical practices, the district administration Kupwara on Tuesday launched a special drive against the USG centers violating the provisions of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC&PNDT) Act.
He said that a team of officers headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Handwara and Chief Medical Officer Kupwara and Station House Officer Kupwara inspected the various USG Centers in Kupwara town.
During the course of the inspection, Ibni-Sena Diagnostic Center Kupwara, Kupwara Scan Point Kupwara, Al-Hayat Diagnostic Center Kupwara, Sana-Deed Diagnostic Center Kupwara and Gee-Emm Fatima Diagnostic Center Kupwara were found operating in violation of PC&PNDT Act and were immediately sealed on spot, the official said.
He said that the inspection drive shall continue in other parts of the district as well to punish the offenders if found anywhere in the district.
However sources told early times that, these diagnostic centers have been found violating the norms that were already set by the department of health and medical education.
Some centers are operating in Handwara area of the same district and government must put a blanket ban on PCPNDT so that it will curb the menace of illegal sex determination and other unethical practices that has become a daily affair, sources informed. |
