Mere 3 percent of sanctioned amount spent on IIM in 2 years
No end to Jammu's woes in 'BJP Raj'

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 27: The state government has blazingly neglected the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Jammu, with merely 3 percent of funds of the total allocation spent on it in last two years.
The official documents in possession of the Early Times reveal that out of the Prime Minister's special package for Jammu and Kashmir sanctioned in the year 2016, the GOI had kept aside a whooping Rs 1000 crores for the establishment of the IIM Campus in Jammu region of the state. However, what could unmask the government's dilatory and non- serious mode of functioning was that it spent a meager 31.16 crores in two years. Such a revelation has once again brought to fore government's discriminatory approach towards projects of Jammu shameful compromise of the BJP which represents Jammu region in the state coalition.
While government has remained mysteriously silent as to why it had spent mere 3 percent of the total sanctioned amount for the establishment of the IIM in Jammu, it was only earlier this month that the chief minister directed the concerned departments related to the establishment of IIM Jammu for the early operationalization of the campus. "The fact of the matter is that the funds sanctioned for the purpose would get lapsed and the vital aspects that should be there in the campus would remain missing. The establishment of the IIM in Jammu region shouldn't be a mere political slogan but rather should prove beneficial for the students who yearn to make a mark on the spectrum of management," said an official privy to the development.
Pertinently, the IIM Jammu at present is functioning in old campus of the University of Jammu. The Academic session of IIM Jammu started from November 2016 with 54 students and second batch from August 2017 with 67 students. It was informed that the joint inspection and demarcation of the site for establishment of IIM at village Jagati, Nagrota measuring 1600 Kanals has been completed and the construction work can be started immediately by the IIM team.
There are serious concerns being expressed by the academicians that the government isn't making enough resources available so that the IIM Jammu doesn't face any plague in terms of the infrastructure.
