Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 27: Electricity is still a distant dream for more than 2.7 Lakhs households in state of Jammu and Kashmir despite the state having a huge potential to produce electricity.
As per the document in possession of Early Times, the state of Jammu and Kashmir was least bothered to implement Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) as in the year of 2017, the state electrified only five villages. "2,70,859 households in both the regions comprising of more than 10 lakhs population are still reeling under the darkness", document reads.
In the last financial year, the Union Ministry of Power in collaboration with State governments electrified 6015 villages under the ambitious scheme- Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Gram Jyoti Yojana wherein the state government succeeded only in electrifying five villages.
The document further reads that in year 2015 and 2016 the state government only electrified 36 villages under the schemes including nine villages in 2015 and 27 villages in 2016. "the state of Uttar Pradesh is at higher pedestal where 1, 45, 80,929 households still un-electrified whereas in state of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Gujarat only 12, 103 and 238 households are remaining without electricity."
Sources in the department said that the nonchalant attitude of the department concerned could be gauged from this fact that all the states have implemented the ambitious scheme with letter and spirit and electrified lakhs of households whereas J&K is only state which has succeeded in electrifying only 41 villages since the schemes was implemented.
