No firm policy on Kashmir
R.B. SURI2/27/2018 11:20:07 PM
With our heads down, one thing is very much clear that we don't have any firm policy on Kashmir up to this time because of which Kashmir is burning these days. It is very unfortunate. Everybody in the country wants that Kashmir issue, if any should be resolved once for all without any further loss of time of time otherwise Country's Sovereignty and Integrity would be at stake in the days to come.
More than 70 years or so have gone in just waste since we attained Independence in August 1947. In between, we fought three wars against Pakistan in 1965, 1971 and 1999.
Central Governments in the past from time to time did everything but not achieved any thing out of the same . We should accept this reality boldly. We couldn't achieve anything on this score because of the single reason i.e. we marched ahead thereby adopting the policy of 'HIT and TRIAL METHOD'. We should be ashamed of the same and instead should confess that we remained a total failure in this regard. Kashmir issue is grave in nature because of which we became very much weak in dealing with Kashmir unrest so far and yet the issue, in question, is lingering on as it is .
Therefore there is a dire need of devising altogether a new 'Strategy or Policy on Kashmir' immediately so as to enable the country to clinch the issue involved once for all at the earliest. Out of the period of 70 years or so , Indian National Congress ( INC ) ruled this nation without seriously caring for settling this issue once for all. It took the casual approach resulting which Kashmir problem has taken the giant shape today which is a matter of concern for every body in the country .
We should also accept the reality that Kashmir is with us because of our military forces as on date. Indian Army has sacrificed thousands of its army men and officers to save this land with India. On the contrary, the political organizations (State and Central) have spoiled the issue involved for the sake of their own political interests in order to fetch more votes of the people in this parliamentary democracy thereby neutralizing the effects of the supremacy of the Indian Army. Our heads are down before them . Since we were not having any firm policy on Kashmir, PAK always made good use of it and damaged our country to the maximum extent. Not only this, the antinational elements in the state of Jammu and Kashmir formed so many groups and promoted the hatred among the masses of the valley against India. The political organizations of the state are having their own vested interests of grasping of power by any means exploited them for their cause only. Now the situation in the valley is that they are dancing on the tunes and dictates of Pakistan and via Hawala rackets they are enjoying the funds which were spent in the past for motivating the people of the valley to speak against India and demand for Azadi from India.
Pertinent to mention here that half hearted approach of the Central Government to deal with this important issue was totally nonsense actually thereby putting the country into dangerous situation. Better be late than never. It is very important to discuss here that the present government at the centre led by the PM Narender Modi has the mandate of the Lok Sabha which has already passed a RESOLUTION in February 1994 which gives the authority to the Central Government to act upon seriously and do whatever possible for the vacation of POK from Pakistan. The moment we succeed on this score , Kashmir issue would be solved automatically . For achieving all this, we require a concrete strategy/policy on Kashmir henceforth.
Playing of politics over the issue involved - blaming each other shall not solve the problem but instead complicate the issue detrimental to the interests of the country .
We are lucky to have the strong Armed Forces led by the Competent Generals as also the well trained and equipped paramilitary organizations. They are bold enough to meet any challenge posed by the enemy. It is very much commendable to write that our Armed forces in 1971 have already proved their capability and competence for vacating the erstwhile East Pakistan from the clutches / slavery of West Pakistan Military Rulers. This is now a successful history of our Armed forces .
Liberation of Bangladesh is the out come of firm strategy devised by the valuable brains of the country - the then Prime Minister of India Madam Indira Gandhi, Two Chiefs of Air Force and Navy headed by Field Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw of Indian Army , RAW Chief R.N. Kao and IB Chief etc.
Exactly on the same pattern , it is the need of the hour to vacate the POK from Pakistan without any further delay.
Things moving these days in the valley are not bearable but are going detrimental to the interests of the country rather are adding further confusion and chaos in the prevailing situation in the valley. We fail to understand that measures being taken to contain the menace of antinational activities by the militant outfits and misguided youth of valley , are not in line as it looks that that these are going in different directions . It is worth to describe here that the Indian Army Chief Gen. Bipin Rawat in an unequivocal term, has questioned the amnesty given to the stone pelters ( approx. +5000) in releasing them from the jails as also withdrew all the cases pending against them in different Police / Courts fora.
On this score Indian Army Chief Gen. Bipin Rawat further questioned that as to what kind of good will the governmental agencies are showing to this rotten and vulgar lot who damaged the nation in the past always . His sayings in this regard conveyed each and every thing and should not be taken so lightly by the countrymen and the Central Government. Indirectly he has cautioned and asked the government to apply the restraints to such like activities in the very interests of the nation . It is a serious matter concerning one of us as we don't want to compromise with the security of the country .
It appears that Gen. Rawat on being not satisfied with the working of the State Government of Jammu and Kashmir has cautioned and put the question mark on the release of the stone pelters and subsequently withdrawl of all the cases against them . Also pertinent to mention here that the recommendations being made by the present interlocutor Daneshwar Sharma are not based on the sound logics and reasoning . Therefore there is a need of apply the brakes on him too after having the Indian Army Chief Gen. Rawat into full confidence enabling the Army to save the nation from all such like eventualities at any cost come what may . Gen. Rawat also expressed his anguish over the fact that the stone pelting is going on despite of the same and the State Government is keeping mum over the same. He further quipped that PAK will be given the proper reply very soon against what they did at Army Camp Sunjwan , Jammu . He defended the troops action over Shopian firing incident by stating that the troops have discharged their duties faithfully.
Equally important is that another issue which is cropping up these days that the State Government is going to grant the citizenship rights to the militants who had gone to POK for undergoing training of arms and ammunitions against the integrity and sovereignty of the nation and now have, after surrendering , come back along with their families ( which include their wives from POK and children out of them ). The State Government is thinking about granting them with the PRCs. This is very unfortunate . On the contrary , The West Pakistan Refugees who are residing in our state since 1965 and 1971 are being denied such rights for the reasons best known to the government of the day . They are peace loving people and genuine aspirants for the same . They are being exploited and discriminated at the cost of their lives . The writer of the article is for the firm policy on Kashmir and swift action for the vacation of POK.
