Model Academy hosts CBSE workshop

Jammu, Feb 27: Model Academy, the prestigious school of MIER in collaboration with CBSE organised a two days workshop on "Capacity Building for Career Guidance'' on 23rd and 24th February. Teachers, Principals and Coordinators from 17 CBSE schools of Jammu and adjoining districts attended the workshop. Chand Trehan, Director Care North and Registered Counsellor (RCI), was the resource person for the workshop. Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Dr. Adit Gupta, Director, MIER, Rupa Gupta, Joint Director, Promod Kumar Srivastava, Principal, Model Academy, J K Dhiman, Vice- Principal, Usha Gadoo, Administrative Manager, Manjari Sehgal and Jasleen Mohial, Managers Academics. P K Srivastava, Principal Model Academy while formally welcoming the participants and the resource person said that such workshops are instrumental in enhancing the academic, social and emotional skills of teachers and educators. He said that career guidance for students right from grades 9th to 12th is the need of the hour. He emphasised that teachers must be equipped with all the tools and techniques to guide the students in selecting the right career at the right time. He further said that Model Academy is thankful to CBSE for giving the opportunity to conduct the workshop on career guidance. On the first day of the workshop Dr Trehan's session highlighted the difference between career guidance and career counselling. She said that awareness about self helps in chalking out one's career path and self-exploration involves evaluating interests, personality and aptitude skills. Since determining factors are subjective, it is important to analyse and evaluate various factors before taking a decision. On the second day she spoke at length about the role of teachers in imparting career guidance and how teachers can bridge the gap between fascination and reality to help students make realistic career choices. She also discussed the various strategies and resources that can be used in imparting career information to students which included career talks, quizzes, career conferences, , role plays, job shadowing , career fairs, etc. The workshop was a fun-filled and enriching, full of hands'-on activities for the teachers to indulge in and learn from.
