Red alert in Srinagar as Government apprehends major Fidayeen attack
3/7/2018 11:42:59 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Mar 7: A red alert has been sounded in the summer capital Srinagar following intelligence inputs that Fidayeen squads are "desperate to carry out major strikes" here.
Sources said the police and other government forces have received credible inputs that suicidal squads of Pakistani militants outfits including Hizb and Lashkar, who have infiltrated into Kashmir, have been asked by their masters to carry out Fidayeen attacks in the summer capital.
Sources said some of the key government installations in the city are on the hit-list of the suicidal squads.
Sources said apart from the special operations group, which has kept its deployments ready to face any situation; the concerned police stations have been put on alert.
Sources said the SHOs of all the concerned police stations have been asked to be "extra vigilant" and prepared.
"The SHOs have been directed to personally monitor vigil at all the nakas and ensure wearing bullet proof vests," said a source in the police department.
It was reliably learnt the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force camps across the summer capital have been asked to improve night vigil at their installations.
Sources said after having taken "advantageous positions" in other districts, particularly in South Kashmir, the militants want to make their presence felt more in the summer capital only to be in news.
"They (militants) feel that their presence in countryside goes unnoticed so they want to make big news through their activities in the city," said a police official on the condition of anonymity.
Pertinently in February, two Pakistani militants had tried to storm a CRPF camp at Karan Nagar here, triggering a 30- hour gunfight, which ended after both the insurgents were eliminated.
When contacted a senior police official said the government forces were fully prepared to meet any eventuality. "Our first concern in public safety," he said.
