Growing Sino-Pak cordial ties a matter of worry for India
3/8/2018 10:55:35 PM
It is a matter of concern for India as New Delhi fears that Pakistan could become a conduit for spreading the ISIS ideology in eastern parts of India. Another worry for New Delhi is the likelihood of escalation of the ongoing conflict on the LoC and on the IB in Jammu and Kashmir. This conflict could assume any alarming shape and dimensions. And once the border tension escalated it could motivate Pakistan to experience proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the hands of non-state actors. Once that happened terrorism could assume any alarming dimensions. And the Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre has indicated that the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) was "sensitive" and has the potential of escalation. He also expressed concern that rising instability in India's neighbourhood has increased the "probability of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) to non-state actors". In fact India is faced with a difficult neighbourhood with myriad of security challenges... On the LAC, the situation is sensitive as incidents of patrolling, transgression and standoff have the potential of escalation, India is in favour of confidence building measures being enhanced, and New Delhi shall continue to take all action as deemed necessary to ensure the sanctity of LAC."
Many things are going on (along LAC). And one is not sure enough to know one of the things may trigger the escalation. The LAC refers to a demarcation between Indian and Chinese territory lying in the state of Jammu and Kashmir that acts as the de facto border between the two countries. Bhamre has stated in addition to conventional threats, non-traditional threats "lurk in the cyber domain" and that a rise in religious fundamentalism and its spread "especially through social media remains a cause of concern". The likelihood of Pakistan becoming a conduit for eastward spread of ISIS ideology remains high... putting the threat of increased radicalisation. The rising instability in India's neighbourhood has increased probability of proliferation of WMD to non-state actors. With continued ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (with Pakistan) and unabated infiltration attempts, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir remained a "challenge" for India. India has to face the challenge boldly so that the nation is able to promote political and security stability.
And further growing cordial relations between China and Pakistan is another concern for India. Not that India is opposed to the two promoting friendly relations but since both China and Pakistan are against the political security stability and peace in Jammu and Kashmir their proximity could pose a new challenge to India. It is this proximity between Pakistan and China that Islamabad did not cry like a widow over the plan of the US on suspension of military and economic aid to Pakistan. This means that Pakistan banks on its trusted friend, China, for compensating whatever losses Islamabad is supposed to suffer after the US implemented its plan of stopping economic and military aids to Pakistan. And already the work on the China-Pakistan economic corridor has witnessed hasty implementation and that has motivated Beijing to deploy from prisoners from the Chinese jails to work on the road construction. And China is spending around 62 billion dollars on the project when the cost of the project was initially estimated to be of the tune of 46 billion dollars. This confirms that many more projects have been included in the infrastructure being built by China in Pakistan.
