Udhampur, Mar 8: Women Inmates of district jail Udhampur irrespective of caste and the faith they profess have contributed to communal harmony by making jute bags for carrying parshad at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. Not all devotees Know that the bags in which they carry Parshad for Mata Vaishno Devi shrine are made by the women inmates of Udhampur jail. Jail Superintendent Rajni Segal hopes that the humble contribution shall go a long way in promoting communal harmony. "The women are given training to make jute bags and this keeps them busy. This activity has established peace and order in the jail ward as they get no time to quarrel," she said. A jail inmate, Shoba while talking to Early Times said that earlier we used to fight with each other. "There was tension all around. Now we make bags and get tired after day's work. Afterdinner we go to sleep. We earn RS 2 per bag and every woman makes 60 to 100 bags a day," she said.
Gurjeet Kaur is happy to make bags for carrying parshad from the revered shrine.
The superintendent said the bag making became possible with the cooperation of the Women Development Corporation. Two trainers came to the jail and imparted training to the inmates," she said.
