POF decries Govt decision of land to Tribes | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 8: Public Opinion Forum (POF) in an urgent meeting held here today strongly opposed the decision of the Mehbooba Mufti led Government in Jammu and Kashmir directing the official machinery not to act against 'land grabbers' and illegal occupants of public property in the garb of Tribal community. "By directing the District Commissioners and other Revenue officials as also department heads of those enforcement agencies and organisations, the Chief Minister has virtually encouraged those land grabbers and illegal occupants of the government property in the name of shelters to Tribal community," said Parveen Sharma while chairing the meeting. He further said that by issuing a general order in this regard, the BJP-PDP coalition government has encouraged those anti-social elements and discouraged the officials working on the ground. "In fact, the government, by issuing such a favourable order, has made an attempt to increase the influence of a particular community on the peace loving people in the Jammu Province. Since the order encourages empowerment of illegal occupants of public property, the POF demands immediate withdrawal of such a direction to the district heads," maintained POF vice president, Nathu Ram Gupta. The meeting also discussed the prevailing situation in district Kathua and expressed sympathy with the people from both the communities. However, the members supported the demand of the locals for an impartial CBI probe into the death of an innocent minor girl. Members of the POF also supported the demand of Nowshera for district status. |
