BARAMULLA, May 5: Bodies of mother and daughter were recovered today from nallah in Kupwara district, while as scores of people on Saturday participated in the last rites of a slain Sumo driver who was shot dead by unknown gunmen, while his wife received critical injuries in the attack in Sopore town of this north Kashmir district on late Friday evening.
According to sources, the dead bodies of a woman namely Rubeena Begum and her one year old daughter Sheebo were recovered from a pond in Arambugh Halmatpora area of Kupwara on Saturday.
Top police official told ET that preliminary investigations suggest that the duo had jumped into the nallah last night over some family dispute, but other possibilities could not be ruled out.
The police official said that the bodies of both mother and daughter have been handed over to the families for last rites after completing all legal formalities. "A case has been registered in this regard and investigation has been taken up, the police officer said, adding one person has been also arrested and it seems there was some domestic violence issue", the police official told early times.
Meanwhile scores of people on Saturday participated in the last rites of a slain Sumo driver who was shot dead by unknown gunmen, while his wife received critical injuries in the attack in Sopore outskirts.
Earlier, unidentified gunmen on Jan 3 killed 25-year-old driver Arif Maqbool Sofi son of Mohammad Maqbool Sofi in the same area.
Pertinently, this was second such incident in the last four months in the same village.
A senior police official while talking to ET said that militants on Friday evening entered into the residential house of a Civilian Muhammad Ashraf Mir son of Jamal Mir at Harwan in Bomai area of Sopore and fired upon him and his wife.
Both were injured critically in this incident and were evacuated to Sub District Hospital Sopore however Mohammad Ashraf Mir succumbed to his injuries. Police have started investigation of the instant case.
