Pakistan has reciprocated US restrictions on diplomas' movement
5/13/2018 10:00:37 PM
Confident about support from China Pakistan has started measuring muscles with the US and has imposed restrictions on the movement of US diplomats stationed in Pakistan. This follows US restrictions imposed on the movement of Pakistani diplomats stationed in America and other states of the US. In fact the American restrictions follow the fears of the Pakistani diplomats indulging in anti-US activities on the plea that Pakistan has become a safe haven for terrorists of various hues. In reality the US restrictions are the result of growing cordial ties between India and the US and Washington continues to believe that Pakistan has been exporting terror to India and to Jammu and Kashmir and to Afghanistan. Pakistan has imposed restrictions on the movement of US diplomats posted in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. The US diplomats are already prohibited from visiting high security areas such as Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) to protect them against any terrorist attack. The US has already restricted the movement of Pak diplomats travelling more than 40 Kms in Washington or consulates in other cities without permission.
Pakistan's foreign ministry has called the Pak imposed restrictions on the US diplomats a matter of reciprocity because of the way the Pak diplomats face travel restrictions in US. And Islamabad has imposed restrictions simply because of security reasons. Pakistan has described US restrictions on its diplomats not the right decision. This way bickerings have begun between Islamabad and Washington. And the reason for these bickerings is the anger of the US against Pakistan for harbouring terrorists. And this could prompt Washington to impose restrictions on the free movement of Pak diplomats under the impression that once these Pak diplomats are given free movement they could motivate some Pakistani nationals, settled in the US, to start recruiting terrorists for possible attacks in the various cities of America.
The US President, Donald Trump, is annoyed with the establishment in Islamabad on the ground of providing safe hideouts for the terrorists of various hues. The US is also annoyed with the way Pakistan has ignored suggestions from India. India has imposed certain conditions for the resumption of bilateral talks for restoring peace in the region and especially in Jammu and Kashmir. And the top demand was that Pakistan should stop exporting terror to Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has not accepted this demand and instead has resorted to frequent ceasefire violations on the LoC and on the IB for the purpose of pushing groups of militants into Jammu and Kashmir. And Washington has been in favour of the resumption of bilateral talks for the settlement of the Kashmir issue. The US desire has not been fulfilled by Pakistan and that could also be the reason behind imposing restrictions on the movement of Pak diplomats posted in the US.
