Early Times Report
Jammu, May 13: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has taken a bold step by abolition of stamp duty on property purchased by or in the name of a female.
Many people believe that the step would empower women and would encourage the people to register their properties on the names of female members of their families.
The UN Women (India) has appreciated J&K government's decision. "@unwomenindia acknowledges the positive measure taken by the J&K Government to abolish stamp duty on the sale of #property registered in the name of #females. Huge step towards #women's #empowerment! @MehboobaMufti," the UN Women (India) tweeted on its official page on Saturday, day after the government decided to abolish the stamp duty.
Since the day Mehbooba has taken over the reins of the state she has taken many bold decisions and has made it a point that her decisions are implemented in letter and spirit. "Soon after Mehbooba took over the reins of the state she announced special bus service for women in Jammu and Srinagar cities. She announced special marriage assistance scheme for women. She even brought the women officers at the forefront and placed them at the top positions. These are all welcome steps and deserve all kudos," said an analyst.
He said, "Mehbooba has the distinction of being the first woman Chief Minister of the state and has become famous across the world. Her steadfastness and courage are making people believe that she has emerged as an iron lady."
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Chief Minister has been taking bold decisions due to which expectations of the people have risen."
He said, "The Chief Minister should carry forward the good work she is doing. She can become more popular by expediting the investigations into the all the rape cases which have been reported across Jammu and Kashmir. For women she has emerged as a role model and by doing so she can ensure that victims get the justice and it would serve as a deterrent for those who are involved in crime against women."
