Chairman DDB Ang seeks detailed report from DC about encroachment of land 5/13/2018 10:45:38 PM Early Times Report ANANTNAG, May 13: Minister for Finance, Labour & Employment, Syed Altaf Bukhari today sought a detailed report from Deputy Commissioner Anantnag regarding the 'encroachment' of state and forest land at Pahalgam, famous tourist spot. The issue of encroachment of land at Pahalgam was raised by Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) legislator Sofi Yousuf during the district development board (DDB) meeting which was chaired by Bukhari at Dak Banglow Khanabal. Yousuf alleged that authorities were deliberately ignoring the issue of land encroachment at Pahalgam. "I have raised the issue on various forums including legislative council assembly last year and demanded a through probe and action against all those who have grabbed forest land at Pahalgam but nothing happened yet. I again raised the issue and will continue so till the culprits aren't booked and the land encroachments aren't removed," Sofi told Early Times. National Conference legislator from Pahalgam, Altaf Ahmad Kaloo also intervened and demanded a fair probe into the issue of encroachment of state and forest land at Pahalgam. "I made the chairman aware of the fact that under the garb of decades old 60-C gazette, influential people and politicians have encroached and grabbed forest land at Pahalgam. I requested the chairman to constitute a high level committee so that the matter is probed and culprits are punished," Kaloo said. He said Bukhari directed Deputy Commissioner Anantnag to submit a detailed report to the government within a fortnight. As reported earlier, influential businessmen, politicians and bureaucrats have grabbed prime forest land at Pahalgam. The forest department even has issued No Objection Certificates to few influential encroachers due to political pressure. Last year, the Jammu and Kashmir Government in legislative assembly also admitted that 145 encroachers have illegally grabbed 33.81 hectares of forest land at Pahalgam.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
