Bijbehara a major success for Army: Lt Gen A K Bhat

BARAMULLA, Nov 23: Terming the killing of six militants in the Bijbehara encounter as a major success for security agencies, Lt Gen A K Bhat, GOC 15 corps said here on Friday that, it was a surgical operation and a major achievement for security agencies including army and police. "The operation was very prompt and precise", General said.
On the sidelines of Gurpurb function in Baramulla, the officer told newsmen that, no casualty took place and no civilian damage was reported in Bijbehara encounter, where six militants including LeT commander Azad Malik were killed.
Asked about militants' reported meeting in Srinagar, the Army Commander further said "we are verifying the facts whether meeting really took place or not". He said that whosoever chose to join violence, will be dealt with the same manner .
"Our job is to neutralize militants where ever they are. So far the situation is normal in North Kashmir as compared to South Kashmir all with the help and cooperation of people", Gen said.
15 corps commander while praising people of the northern region of Kashmir said, "people here always supported us to maintain peaceful environment".
He said that since last 12 months we have killed militants in hundreds and this all indicates that we want a peaceful environment in the Kashmir so that people can live fearlessly.
In reply to a question about the speculation that one militant killed in today's encounter was behind the assassination of Shujaat Bukhari, A K Bhat said that the matter was being investigated by police.
However sources said that in a major development in the assassination case of senior journalist Dr Syed Shujaat Bukhari, one of the militants killed in the encounter in Bihbehara area of south Kashmir is believed to have been involved in the murder.
The encounter between militants and security forces had Friday today morning in Sutkipora village of Bijbehara district of south Kashmir.
Meanwhile Gurupurab, the birthday of First Guru of Sikhs, Guru Nanak Devji was celebrated at Chatti Padshahi Gurudwara with zeal and zest.
