Militant meeting, photo op in Srinagar put police in tight spot
'Govt seeks report, heads may roll'

Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 23: With the militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen claiming to have held a meeting of its commanders in Srinagar, while a selfie of a top commander was also made public, the reports of twin developments have put the Jammu and Kashmir Police in tight spot.
Sources said New Delhi has taken a serious note of claims as put forth by the terror group whose key handler and US designated terrorist Syed Salah-ud-din has been hiding in Muzaffarabad.
Sources said the Union Home ministry looks ahead to call a high level meeting in the national capital where senior officials from the intelligence and the security grid will be called. It was reliably learnt that some senior officers from the JKP would also attend the meeting.
Sources said New Delhi is upset with the development that militants have dared to show their presence at historic Lal Chowk and thus the matter would be reviewed in detail.
Sources said though the police have initially conveyed to the Raj Bhawan that the picture might have been morphed by the militants, some senior officials are unwilling to buy the version.
Sources said the Srinagar police have started screening the CCTV footage of Lal Chowk and its adjoining areas to verify if the militants had really come to the commercial hub to take selfies.
The police are understood to have constituted a special team headed by a Superintendent of Police to verify the details. The report is likely to be submitted within week to the Raj Bhawan.
"If the report establishes that the picture was captured in Lal Chowk, transfers in police are expected," said a source in the Home department.
The militant outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahdeen released on November 22 a photograph, showing a militant in Lal Chowk, to claim to have conducted a "command council meeting in Srinagar as per the program."
As per the police sources the militant in the picture has been identified as Umer Majeed alias Hanzalla.
Hanzala is seen posing for the picture from the public park Lal Chowk. The area is under CCTV surveillance.
Last week the Hizb had claimed that it would be holding meeting in Srinagar. Security agencies have inputs that the might have been held in Hazratbal area but that same is being verified.
