SRINAGAR, Nov 23: For a long time now we have been hearing that contractors or builders sub-let a contract to some other person since they are busy with other engagements but when the same parameter is applied in some other field it is mind boggling.
Teachers, lecturers and professors are considered to be nation builders and torch bearers and one cannot expect these professionals to cross the limit. However, as on date the sanctity of teaching profession has come under a cloud and it is no more a profession where honesty should be a forte.
Non-seriousness of teachers, lecturers and professors towards the jobs assigned to them can be gauged by the fact that these professionals hand over the answer scripts of students to some others for evaluation. These professionals give a damn to the future of students by handing over the answer scripts to people not authorized to do so.
It is due to this fact only that University of Kashmir has taken a strong note of the same and asked the evaluators to desist from such practices. A stern warning has been issued to the evaluators and they have been asked to check the answer scripts of students themselves.
"It has been reported that some of the Paper Evaluators do not evaluate Answer Scripts on their own but hire contractual teachers of their own college or otherwise which amounts to serious misconduct and violation of service rules," wrote Controller of Examinations, University of Kashmir in an order issued on 19-11-2018.
The order further reads, "All the Principals of GDC Colleges associated with evaluation of the Answer Scripts of our university are requested to impress upon their colleagues to evaluate Answer Scripts on their own and not to engage any other person unauthorizedly."
"Any dereliction by these evaluators will invite administrative action and will be taken up with the Department of Higher Education for calculating APR of these faculty members for their further promotion," reads the order.
The issuance of order by the university authorities is timely and it is expected that the college teachers would give up on this disturbing trend and check the answer scripts on their own without 'subletting' them. Stern action needs to be taken against the professionals who refuse to budge and continue with the disturbing trend. "Education was considered to be one of the noble professions in the world but that is not to be now. Most of the teachers, lecturers and professors run after the money and they don't understand the consequences of handing over the answer scripts to others for evaluation. In such a manner the career of students is put to stake and in most cases the career is spoiled," said sources.
