NC workers stage protests against decision to treat J-K bank as PSU
12/1/2018 9:39:46 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 1: Workers of the National Conference today took out protest rallies across the Jammu division, seeking revocation of the decision of Governor S P Malik-led state administrative council to treat the J&K bank as a public sector undertaking (PSU).
The main rally was taken out from NC headquarters at the Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan with dozens of workers carrying the placards in support of their demand for immediate rollback of the decision for the larger interests of the state which enjoy special position, a party spokesman said.
The protesters led by district president Dharamveer Singh Jamwal staged a sit-in dharna at busy Raghunath chowk.
They criticized the decision and expressed apprehensions that this would adversely impact the functioning of the bank and shake the confidence of its huge clientele.
The agitators also castigated the administration for eroding the special status of the state, saying such decisions are detrimental to the interests of the people.
Senior National Conference Leader and Former Home Minister Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo demanded a rollback of the Governor-administered dispensation's decision to treat the local J&K Bank as a public sector undertaking.
While addressing the party workers, Kichloo said that the State Administrative Council (SAC) ordered that henceforth the J&K Bank would come under the RTI purview and also be treated as a PSU. In a statement issued here today, Kichloo said such decisions smack of attempts to fiddle with the basic characters of the state's special status. Because due to the special status, only State Legislature is authorized to do anything without the interference of the Central Government except the three matters i.e Defence, Foreign Affairs and Communications because it is related to the security concern and no any state is authorized to breach the privacy which is related to the security concern but here is case of state issue particularly jammu and kashmir and it put a question mark on the special status when it comes under the purview of Governor rule or the President rule, it doesn't mean that no one have the authority to interpret in the personal matters of the state and particularly even also when the constitutional machinery fails in the state.
The protests were also held at Samba, Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua, Ramban, Banihal, Udhampur, Billawar, Reasi , Gool-Gulabgarh, Bishnah, R S Pura and other places of the Jammu division, the spokesman said.
Leaders of the NC presented a memorandum to authorities against the government's decision and called for its immediate rollback.
Youth National Conference Kishtwar today staged a protest demanding a rollback of the decision of Governor S P Malik-led state administrative council to treat the bank as a public sector undertaking.
As per the details available with Early Times, scores of youth NC members assembled at party headquarters and staged a demonstration.
Party Youth President Farooq Ahmed Dev pointed out the negative impact of the decision of governor Malik led SAC decision to treat the bank as a public sector undertalking . He said it will harm and disorient the financial structure of Jammu and Kashmir. He further pointed out that, Jammu and Kashmir bank is a main employment generator of State, if converted into PSU will create further unrest in the state.
