Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 1: Notwithstanding the best performing state award conferred on the state on national platform recently, the Medical Supply Corporation Ltd meant for providing and distributing medicine and equipment to health institutions has miserably failed to supply prescribed free drugs to health institutions.
Reliable sources in Health and Medical Education department told Early Times that government aims to benefit poor people of state by providing free drugs to patients in government run hospitals but it proves merely a joke as by providing few medicines to health institutions since the policy was framed.
However, as per policy the government had categorized health institutions up to district hospitals where free drugs provided through JKMSCL. Through this policy government had selected set of 23 products of various dosage forms to Sub Health Centre while 53 product of various dosage forms to Primary Health Centers and 68 product of various dosage form to Sub district Hospitals are planned to be supplied under such policy for use in In-Patient and Out-Patient facilities but at present the corporation has provided few dosage to health institutions. Some of the essential vaccines as well as tablets goes missing even to district level hospitals despite commitment provided free in the hospitals.
"Since the policy was launched in state, the government has failed to provide all dosage which was framed in free drug policy. In absence of free medicine in hospitals, the patient attendant accused doctors and said that the doctors deliberately prescribed those medicine which was not available in hospital premises", sources said, adding that many times patients attendant asked hospital authority why not free medicine provided to patients but in reality they don't understand that the government only framed policy and not fully implemented at ground.
Many emergency medicines as well as vaccines framed in such policy including Anti Rabies Vaccines are not available. As per this policy such type of injection will be provided to Sub-district level hospital but interesting for the last few months the supply yet not provided to health institutions. Through this policy it is the responsibility of corporation for distribution of supplies to various health institutions across state.
