12/1/2018 10:28:54 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 1: The state police is a mute spectator to open violation of traffic norms by Kathua-Jammu bus operators who engag in overloading and rash driving during peak hours.
Despite nakas at most of the bus stations, none of the bus operators is penalized as the police seems hand in glove with them.
According to commuters from Kathua, buses coming from Kathua are alwaysoverloaded. The buses coming from Basohli, Billwar and Pathankot to Jammu are also badly packed with the passengers, just like livestock", a commuter said.
Sham Singh a commuter said that he boarded a bus from Lakhanpur, coming from Pathankot to Jammu.
"The capacity of bus was merely 52 passengers but it had ferried over 150 passengers.
There was no place inside the bus to stand up but the conductor was packing more and more passengers, making it a suffocating experience", the commuter said, adding that if some of the commuter asked the conductor to desist from ferrying more, his arrogant reply was to de-board the bus.
Informed sources said that the number of the overloaded buses are entered into a register and a handsome amount is taken from they said the process was going on for the past few years and there was no let up during th Governor's rule.
