Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 1: Flouting government's order on ban on issuance of fresh arms licenses, a hilly district of the state has issued around 4,000 gun licenses just two weeks ago without making their online entries, in sheer violations of the rules.
The government had ordered a strict ban on issuance of fresh arms license after umpteen reports of huge number of licenses issued to the people belonging to other states without making their online entries and proper documentation.
"After this case, the matter was handed over to CBI to verify the licenses issued to the outsiders from various districts of Jammu and Kashmir. It was decided that no individual license will be issued in any case till further inquiry," sources said, adding that the administration in a mountainous district issued about 4000 arms licenses without caring about government's order and following the codal formalities.
"No online entry was made, which is mandatory as per Union Home Ministry order for the licenses issued," sources said, adding that as per government's order no arms license will be issued or be considered valid without its online entry.
Sources further said that the majority of the license holders for whom the licenses were issued are the army personnel from other states and the rules under Arms Act envisages that only those army personnel will be issued arms licenses who are posted in the district from where license is issued, but here in this case no army personnel was posted in that particular district in the region.
