Lack of coordination between deptts ails Srinagar
12/28/2018 10:42:00 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR: Despite constituting municipal bodies in Srinagar, the lack of coordination is still impacting the overall development of the summer capital. An official of SMC said here are numerous problems in Srinagar. "Every department like Srinagar Development Authority, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Roads and Buildings Department are working in different directions. They have no coordination. We need to put all 35 services under one roof," the official said. Deputy Mayor Sheikh Imran said, "There has been a sizeable change in the Corporation. We are moving things in a right direction. I feel in another 3 months, there will be a visible change on ground," he said. "I can give an example that Srinagar has a funding of Rs 1100 crore. There is a drain in Mehjoor Nagar, which require Rs 2 crore 38 lakh. Funds have not been released for that," he added. Another source said that Srinagar is facing the problem of dog menace and congestion on streets. "We have identified an additional site for dog sterilization in Budgam. In another six months you will see dog problem will come down," the source said.
The official said that implementation of smart city needs smart planning and people.
"Smart city is something we all dream off. We need to have a road map. Our Srinagar can be like another city in India. We have to clear encroachments, make bus stands, and install street lights. We are blessed with water transport. Unfortunately vote bank belongs to street vendors and lower class, who are being exploited. We have identified like Palika bazaar malls. We will rehabilitate them in few blocks," the source added.
"Fault lies from both sides-people as well as the government. We can make a change. People shall tell me where is the problem, and we are ready to address them," the official added.
