NHAI fails to remove encroachments along highway

Jammu, Dec 28: Rampant encroachments have come up along the Lakhanpur- Sidhra National Highway and Jammu- Udhampur National Highway. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Local districts administration are just ignoring it.
As per the latest report of encroachments published by Ministry of Transport and Highways reveals that along the National Highway (NH) from Lakhanpur to Sidhra and Jammu to Udhampur, there are numerous cases of encroachment have come to fore but the authority (NHAI) as well as local administration has failed to vacate negligible during their anti encroachment drive.
"However, the report of ministry has revealed that most of encroachments is of temporary in nature in the form of mostly tin sheds (Chajjas) and Ramps but these encroachments has obstacle for free flow of movement along the roadside", the report reads as.
As per the information, the maximum case of encroachments were reported in the years of 2015-16 along the NH at Lakhanpur to Sidhra where total 68 cases of encroachment were reported wherein 28 were removed with the help of anti encroachment drives at time to time but 40 cases are still existing. "In the same year at Jammu to Udhmapur stretch nearly 16 cases were come forward but only four encroachments were removed and remaining were 12 were still existing", the report read as.
At Lakhanpur- Sidhra stretch in year 2016-17, there were 40 case were reported wherein 20 were removed and 20 were still existing whereas at Jammu- Udhampur stretch 12 cases were registered before the authority but only four were removed and remaining eight were still existing.
In the year of 2017-18 total numbers of 28 encroachments cases were registered before the authority at both the stretches- Lakhanpur to Sidhra and Jammu to Udhampur, the authority along with local administration have succeeded only vacating 14 encroachments along the NH while 14 were still existing.
"However, the NH's authority along with local administration of Kathua districts took some drastic steps to vacate encroachments along the National Highway but others districts administrations including Samba, Jammu and Udhampur are just ignoring it", said sources while wishing anonymity.
Sources further said that at NH's stretch near Samba, Narwal, Sidhra and Udhampur there are huge cases of encroachments reported which creating hindrances in flee flow of traffic movements but the authority seems least bothered about it. However, in the month of Novembers, the Advisor to Governor asked the local authority to step up to remove illegal encroachments along NH but the authority yet to heed the matter.
