Early Times Report

KISHTWAR, Dec 30: The people of Marwah today held a massive protest in Marwah area of Kishtwar following the death of a woman allegedly due to the absence of doctors at the local Primary Health Centre (PHC) Marwah, also against the absenteeism culture.
As per the details available with the Early Times, MLC also participated in the protest and termed the death of the women identified as Jana Begum. The protesters alleged that the woman died due to absence of doctors and lack of health facilities in the PHC Marwah adding that it is criminal negligence on part of the state administration which has led to such deaths in areas like Marwah. Addressing the protesters, MLC said that even as the locals were protesting for last several days but no official from the administration including SDM or Tehsildar were present at Sub-Divisional Headquarter adding that all the government offices in the area are closed and no doctor is available at PHC Marwah and the only hospital in the area is closed since last two months. Tak said that he also took up the matter with the district administration and Divisional Commissioner, but to no avail.
The protesting people threatened to intensify the agitation in case the government failed to act. The area is presently cut off due to closure of only link road Margan-Sinthan Top due to snowfall
Speaking to Early Times, the residents of Marwah, Warwan and Dachhan of Sub Division Marwah called upon the Governor's Administration to intervene for making government offices in Marwah Sub Division functional at Sub-Division Headquarter as same are functioning from District Headquarter and virtually making it of no use for the poor people of this one of the remotest areas of the state due to which they are suffering even after 70 years of independence. The agitated people hailing from different areas of Marwah expressed resentment towards the administration and the government for their failure in addressing the long pending issues and demands of the people of the area having population of more than 50000 souls.
