Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 30: Officials of Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council were left red faced on Sunday when the power supply went off during the prize distribution ceremony of 45th J&K state badminton championship at Indoor Sports Complex MA Stadium here.
The chaos prevailed in the stadium and the prizes were distributed under the flash lights of mobile phones.
Former Minster for Industries and Commerce Chander Prakash Ganga, who was the chief guest on the occasion, kept on distributing the prizes in darkness.
Sources told Early Times at the first instance power went off around 2:30 PM and was restored at 5 PM following which men's single final matches were played. As soon as these matches ended the light went out again plunging entire indoor stadium into darkness as there was no power back up available.
Sources said that there is a power genset for Indoor Sports Complex which was not put

n use for the purpose as it is being used by the Sports Council for its office. "Although Chander Prakash Ganga is also the President of Jammu and Kashmir Badminton Association, yet he could not solve the problem during his tenure as a Minister. If the local leaders will show such apathy towards the sports and the sportsmen of Jammu then what can be expected from the Sports Council that has always remained indifferent towards Jammu region," they said, adding that Ganga after distributing the prizes assured the stakeholders that the matter would be looked into and left the place.
One of the players said, "Hundreds of crores were provided by the central government under Khelo India, moreover the stadium is being renovated to bring it at par with international stadiums but the pathetic conditions of the complex shows that nothing is being done practically and all these claims are confined to papers only."
