12/30/2018 10:10:33 PM
Early Times Report
Kathua, Dec 30: Hun-dreds of green tree of deodar converted into Cft in Forest Division Billawar at Compartment no.1 & 3 in Forest beat Sadotra but ironically despite of having Range Officer, Block Forest Officer and Forest Guard, nobody had any report of cutting of trees that would take several weeks. A local source informed the department that might be in deep slumber and ignored the safety of the trees from Forest mafia who used to get active in winter season. Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, Ex State Minister expressed concern over the cutting of trees and informed that local Range officer was notorious in such type of incidents previously too. He informed that many looting of Green Gold cases were highlighted previously before Forest Divisional Officer Billawar but no action has been initiated against persons involved in promoting cutting of trees. Sharma pointed out the stand of state government and local administration against such tainted officers who are duly backed by politicians and higher officers of the department. Congress party threatened to stage an agitation against the cutting of Green Gold and protection of black sheep of the department. The party likely to approach judiciary too, he added. It is reported that Hundreds of deodar trees were cut down at Sadotra compartment number 1 & 3 and converted into Cft. The department had no source to have such incident primarily when the trees were converted and tried to shift from the venue, a local source informed the department at Forest Division Office Billawar. When contacted to DFO Billawar Vivek Modi, the officer confirmed the forest damage and informed that 400 CFTs were excepted to damage in the compartment of Sadotra beat.
He informed about the constitution of team and ensured to take action under service rule against officials if involved in the case and under Forest act against if any civilian found guilty in the felling of hundreds of trees. He was mum when asked about the eagle's eyes of the department in protection of forest when these trees were cut down as that would take weeks to cut down the Deodar trees.
