New Delhi, Jan 2: The central government issued a statement saying that 140 terrorists were killed between June to December 2018. The security forces successfully killed 140 terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir while 426 stone pelting incidents were officially reported in the state.
Hansraj Ahir, the Union minister on Wednesday while replying to a written question in the Rajya Sabha, said that 119 cases of terrorist violence took place from June 25 to December 5, 2018. In the 426 stone pelting incidents that took place in the valley, 34 civilians were injured. 171 security personnel lost their lives while battling against the terrorists and militants in Jammu and Kashmir and other states of the country, at the borders while serving their nation in 2016.
The official statement also said that 167 troops lost their lives in 2017 and in 2018, 163 security personnel were martyred (till November).
There have been various ceasefire violations at Jammu and Kashmir border by Pakistani troops and many terrorist infiltrations throughout 2018 where security personnel and civilians were martyred. In a recent incident, the Indian and Pakistani armies had traded fire along the Line of Control (LoC) on January 1 in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, officials said. Defence sources said Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked firing at Indian positions on Tuesday morning.
Tuesday's ceasefire violation comes on the first day of the New Year. In 2018, there have been over 1,400 ceasefire violations on the LoC and the International Border (IB) by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir.
