Emergence of Panthers Party as viable alternative 'unnerves' BJP
1/2/2019 11:23:59 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 2: Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party during the past few years has emerged as an alternative for the people of Jammu region as the party leaders have worked overtime to highlight the issues which touch the skin of a common man.
A political commentator while talking to Early Times said that the JKNPP has filled the void which was created after BJP entered into a power sharing agreement with the Kashmir centric Peoples Democratic Party, which did nothing to address the issues of Jammu people.
The Panthers Party despite not winning any seats in the 2014 assembly elections played a role of opposition and ensured that the Jammu region doesn't face any discrimination, he said, adding that when the Central government sanctioned AIIMS for Kashmir region, the Panthers Party was the first party to point out that Jammu had been left out. The JKNPP leaders spearheaded the agitation to seek AIIMS for Jammu region and created awareness about how important the AIIMS is for Jammu region. They did not give up till the GoI sanctioned AIIMS for Jammu region.
Leaders of the Panthers Party led by their chairman Harsh Dev Singh played an important role when Centre sanctioned 10,000 posts of special police officers for J&K. But most of the posts were bagged by the Valley and Jammu was left in lurch. Singh along with his supporters took the government head on and brought the discrimination with Jammu region to fore.
When PDP led government granted amnesty to more than 10,000 stone-pelters in Kashmir Harsh Dev Singh demanded the same amnesty for the Jammu youth who were booked on different charges. There is a long list of issues which JKNPP highlighted during these years and to a great extent their efforts have been recognized by the people.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said that the emergence of the Panthers Party in Jammu has unnerved the BJP leadership as the JKNPP is all set prove a tough competitor for the saffron party in the forthcoming parliamentary and assembly polls. "Workers of JKNPP have reached out to far flung areas in Jammu region and have been helping the people to solve their day to day issues. The works which should have been pursued by the BJP leaders and former ministers were pursued by the JKNPP workers. The party has strengthened its foothold in the Jammu region and many people are coming forward to join it," the analyst added.
