RTO seizes 12 buses, recovers Rs 14000 compound fine

KATHUA, Jan 8: In a major move towards curbing traffic violations, a team of Regional Transport Office today seized 12 buses plying on Jammu- Kathua route for tampering with the speed Governors during a surprise inspection.
The inspection team, headed by Regional Transport Officer, Dr. Raj K. Thapa, and comprising ARTO Kuldeep Singh, Motor Vehicle Inspectors Vikas Srivats and Kamal Kumar besides other officials of MVD checked a total of 57 mode of vehicles plying on road targeting mainly the buses plying on National Highway and other major roads. The buses seized were JK02BF 2057, JK02AX 7277, JK02BN 8369, JK02AW 5681, JK02AQ 7511, JK02BL 0675, JK02AM 1067, JK14D 4922, JK02AS 9055, JK08B 9299, JK02AF 9897 and JK02AP 1575.
In addition, various other vehicles were challaned and compounded for offences like plying without uniform (1), overloading passengers (1), without driving licence i.e. Section 3/181 of MV Act (1), Section 177 of MV Act (6), Section 66/192 (A) of MV Act (2), plying without route permit (1).
On spot fine amounting Rs. 14000/- was also recovered as compound fee.
Dr. Raj K. Thapa said that over speeding is one of the major causes of road accidents and civil society, particularly the travellers/ passengers, must come forward to supplement the efforts of Motor Vehicle and Traffic Department in curbing this menace and other traffic violations.
