Pak terrorists better than 'black sheep' in J&K Police
'Janbaaz sipahis' can stoop to any low to settle personal scores

Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 8: Pakistan terrorists are better than black sheep in Jammu and Kashmir police department. If they want to kill anyone they do it. They don't harass the family members of the victims, but a few black sheep in the police department can go to any extent to make people understand that no one should mess with them.
A few policemen can stoop down to any low to settle their personal scores. They can go to any extent to terrify the person whom they want to fall in line. They can harass his children and parents to make the victim understand that they are above the law and no one can stop them.
I Munish Gupta, Editor Early Times, on many occasions faced the wrath of the police officers. Whenever any police official wants to silence the Early Times he straightaway starts harassing my parents and children. His tactic is aimed at making me realize that how "powerful" he is and what all he can do.
The then Station House Officer Bagh-e-Bahu Vijay Choudhary just to stop Early Times from carrying a news story against him used filthy language and circulated the message on Whatsapp groups for more than 10 days against my parents. He threatened my children on facebook to ensure that we do not publish the news against him.
We approached police station Nowabad, they told us to visit Gandhi Nagar police station as they claimed that our case didn't fall in their jurisdiction.
We knocked at the doors of all senior officers, including SSP, DIG, IGP and DGP. None of them paid any heed towards our complaint and told us that if someone abuses anyone no case can be filed. The then DGP Vaid didn't want us to stop Vijay Choudhary as he wanted that we should not write against the J&K police.
When Mehbooba Mufti was the Chief Minister, brother of senior BJP leader, Lal Singh, used derogatory language against her and also circulated a video. Police acted promptly and filed a FIR against Lal Singh's brother. He was hunted and then arrested. He even remained in jail.
The words which were used by Vijay Choudhary were more derogatory than Lal Singh's brother but no case was filed against him. This matter was brought into the notice of then DGP S P Vaid but he told us in clear terms that we should not publish any news stories against the J&K Police. He couldn't feel my pain and anger, nor could he see the fear in my eyes. The last thing which can happen to anyone is that his family becomes the target and the people sitting at the top direct him to forget everything and remain silent.
In Jammu and Kashmir Early Times is the only newspaper which has withstood all the pulls and pressures and has exposed the corrupt practices within the police department.
Vijay Choudhary was transferred from Jammu to Udhampur district not for threatening Early Times but it was done to put a lid over his misdeeds as at that point of time BJP was highlighting the rape case of Samajwadi party MLA in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP was scared that the alleged rape case in which Vijay Choudhary was the main suspect could put the party in trouble. The victim girl had held a press conference in Jammu and had alleged that Choudary outraged her chastity. His transfer took place just before Assembly elections in UP. The BJP got him transferred so that their opponents don't get a chance to corner the saffron party.
After few days he (Vijay Choudhary) was given a better police station than Bagh-e-Bahu where he could strike better deals.
Two years have passed since we faced torment and harassment at the hands of "janbaaz siphais" of Jammu and Kashmir Police. We have written to all grievances cells, including that of Chief Minister and Prime Minister but till date no FIR has been registered against Choudary.
When PDP and BJP were ruling the state we approached Tasaduq Mufti, who was heading the CM's grievance cell at that point of time. Instead of listening to us he directed us to publish a corrigendum of a news story which had appeared on the page 1 of Early Times on that day.
As the time has passed we have realized that nothing will happen and even if the FIR is registered against Vijay Chaudhary he would still be able to manage a plum posting for himself soon after the Governor's rule ends in J&K. He can approach any corrupt minister or corrupt police officer and get the police station of his choice.
There is no dearth of corrupt police officer or corrupts leaders in Jammu and Kashmir. Who will listen to Early Times at this point of time when Dilbag Singh is the Director General of Police? When Omar Abdullah led government attacked Early Times the then IGP Jammu Ashok Gupta opposed the diktat of the politicians to register fabricated cases against Early Times. The IGP Gupta's resentment infuriated the then rulers. They transferred Gupta and appointed Dilbag Singh as IGP Jammu.
Had the divine intervention not taken place, by now all of us would have been resting in peace.. The then Omar Abdullah led government took the help of land mafia and had almost prepared a plan to murder my family members. It was the first or second day of the posting of Dilbag Singh as IGP in Jammu when land mafia tried to grab our land and kill us all.
Early Times is the only newspaper in J&K which openly writes against the separatists and exposes their designs. We have received threatening e-mails from the supporters of separatists on many occasions. Twice we approached the J&K Police and informed them about the threats we are receiving through e-mails. On one occasion Police told us that they cannot trace the accused as the e-mail has come from a foreign server. Next time we were just made to visit the police station again and again and no FIR was registered.
We want to tell the Police whenever any accused uses filthy language against their political masters through e-mail the entire cyber cell becomes active and traces the accused. But when a person abuses my family members openly on social media, no action is taken against him. Our only fault is that we expose their misdeeds.
