RAMBAN, Jan 8: Police has arrested a person, allegedly accused of raping a minor girl.
As per police sources, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by Sanjeev Singh, a resident of same village around eight months back, when she had gone to collect firewood from the nearby forest.
The accused threatened the girl of dire consequences if she revealed the ordeal to anyone. Later, the girl mustered courage and narrated the ordeal to her mother, who lodged a complaint with Police Station Ramsu in this regards.
Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 1/19 under section 376 RPC was registered at Ramsu Police Station and on specific information, the accused has been arrested.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
Meanwhile, people held strong protest led by Talib Hussain Choudhary in front of district administrative complex Ramban, demanding arrest of other associates of the accused involved in this heinous crime.
The protestors alleged that more persons are involved in this rape case and should be arrested.
After getting information, police team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Ramsu rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors by assuring them of impartial probe into the incident and arrest of other persons if found involved in this crime. On the assurance, the protestors dispersed.
When contacted SSP Ramban Anita Sharma said that on the complaint of victim's mother, a case was registered at Police Station Ramsu and accused has been taken into custody. SSP said that the girl is under treatment at SMGS Hospital Shalamar Jammu due to some medical complications.
