Early Times Report

RAJOURI, Jan 8: Besides his official duties as a teacher, Harbans Singh Jamwal has been providing free tuition, art and cutting training to poor students selflessly and has also introduced various innovative methods to teach the students in Narla village situated in remotest area in district Rajouri.
People in the area are generally illiterate or less educated because government schools here are situated at far off places while no private institution exists in the area for getting better educational avenues.
The entire area has been neglected as for education and other developmental works are concerned.
Jamwal with the help of other teachers has conducted elections for the presidents of various schools under Narla education complex so that the services of the intelligent students can be utilized for teaching other students/ for curricular activities as the schools are facing shortage of teachers.
"Being illiterate, people don't care to send their children to schools. We are making every effort to increase the enrolment in the government schools but despite our best efforts the problem of absentee students still persists," said Harnam Singh Jamwal, also cluster resource coordinator, Narla.
"As we have not achieved the desired results to educate the people to send their children to schools, we have developed an idea of community participation by providing help to poor/ illiterate people in helping in their bank and other official works in the school complex," added Jamwal.
He further said that as most of the people are illiterate and can't read and write so we decided to provide them all type of bank forms in the school including filling of the forms.
"Under this initiative the parents will remain in our touch and we can also arrange awareness programmes to educate them about their children's education, government schemes and can also help them in other departmental related activities," said Jamwal.
