Anantnag poll: Mehbooba in serious trouble
4/27/2019 10:49:37 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 27: Former J&K CM and president of the PDP Mehbooba Mufti is in serious trouble. She is being attacked by all from all sides and she is also being isolated. The Congress, the NC, the Peoples Conference, many civil society groups in the Valley are all targeting her and holding her responsible for all the troubles Kashmir has been face to face with post-Burhan Wani episode. They are also holding her and her alliance with the BJP squarely responsible for low voter turn out both in the Srinagar and Anantnag parliamentary constituencies.
Srinagar witnessed a paltry 14% voter turnout and Anantnag just 13.60%. Mehbooba Mufti's own hometown Bijbehara witnessed the lowest-ever voter turn out.. It was just about 2%. South Kashmir's four districts Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian were once considered the Mufti's very strongholds and it was in this constituency that Mehbooba Mufti is struggling hard to survive and remain somewhat relevant.
NC president Farooq Abdullah contested election from Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency and Mehbooba Mufti is testing political waters in the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency.
It's not just the NC, the Congress, the PC and Kashmiri civil society groups, who have unleashed a no-holds-barred campaign against Mehbooba Mufti and her PDP. Even the Muslim clergy has turned against her and it is using some mosques to make the people to not vote. It was none other than the PDP itself which made this disclosure the other day. The PDP described the use of mosques against her as a conspiracy.
